Jaime Russell’s yoga journey began in 2006, rooted in a moment of family support. When her father was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, her mother encouraged him to join a yoga class at the local Y in Frederick. What started as a gesture of support quickly transformed Jaime’s life. At 26, a young mother and part-time waitress, she joined her father for sessions with a teacher named Eva. Jaime recalls it vividly: “It was love at first sight.” While she had always enjoyed fitness, yoga gave her something deeper — a sense of being good at something meaningful.
Jaime’s early experiences in yoga studios weren’t without obstacles. One of her toughest moments was realizing she didn’t feel a sense of belonging at the studio where she worked.
Evolution Through Vulnerability
Reflecting on her younger self, Jaime sees growth through vulnerability. “I was so cocky and insecure at the same time!” she laughs. But those moments of pain and doubt became her greatest teaching tools. Jaime now emphasizes the power of simply listening. Rather than trying to fix or direct her students, she offers space for presence and personal discovery. “Sometimes, listening is all people really need.”
Teaching with Imperfection
As a teacher, Jaime has embraced the value of mistakes. She’s learned not to freeze when errors happen in front of a class — instead, she uses them as teaching moments. “If I make a mistake in front of 30 students, I can’t get hung up. We have to move forward.” Her vulnerability and authenticity have become part of her strength as a teacher and leader.
Championing Yoga Teacher Training
Jaime is a passionate advocate for Yoga Teacher Training (YTT), not just as a path for instructors but as a transformative life experience. “Even if you don’t teach, you’ll gain something invaluable — community, self-discovery, and lifelong friendships.” She has witnessed countless personal transformations and affirms: “I have yet to see one person regret their decision to take YTT.”
Leading with Empowerment
Today, Jaime teaches Power Yoga with a mission: to help students find empowerment within. Her journey — from joining her father’s class to becoming a voice of wisdom and encouragement.
